Five on Friday

Our son lives in an old historical gold mining town
in Victoria, Australia
140 km north of Melbourne.
It was such an interesting place to visit
and you will see more when I post about it over the weekend.

We had several meals out and lunch one day
at The Wombat Hill cafe in Daylesford where
Croque Monsieur was on the menu and it was delicious!
but not a wombat in sight!

Our  long awaited kiwi Summer has been interrupted
with storms throughout New Zealand.

Unfortunate for campers whose holidays
have been cut short because of wet tents and bedding.
Once the Christmas celebrations are over
many young kiwi families
pack their trailers with tents and other camping gear
hitch it to the car and
drive off in search of the perfect spot
 to spend their holiday
at the beach or beside the lake.
In good weather this is a fun thing to do.

The rain that has interrupted a summer holiday for so many
has come as a huge relief for farmers
as many have been in drought conditions for two years.
Now the farmers will all be out doing their

HAPPY DANCE!

When the Jacaranda blooms it's a sure sign of
Summer in our part of the world.
I'm very fond of it's blue flowers
however it can reach a height of 30 metres
which is too large for a townhouse garden!

We have become a nation of coffee drinkers
myself included.
This one was enjoyed at a cafe in Maldon!

I'm joining Amy at Love Made my Home for
Five on Friday

Take care and
be kind to one another

à bientôt

Shane

  1. Dearest Shane,
What a happy visit to Australia.
So you always have to travel, near and far, for seeing your children!
Glad you enjoyed some lovely meals and as for the wombat, I did pet a baby wombat in a sanctuary north of Melbourne when we both visited during the weekend off from work.
Sending you hugs and blessings and you made me smile when I saw that Jacaranda photo.

  5. Dearest Shane,
an old historical gold mining town - what a wonderful place for your son to live!
Do you know the saying "One man's meat is another man's sorrow"? - That seems to be true also in connection with the rain in NZ. Good for farmers, bad for campers ...
The jacaranda tree is superb !!!
Lots of hugs and Happy 2016!

  7. Shane, it's interesting to see summer in your part of the world, as NYC has finally had very chilly winter air enter into our New Year mix.

    That tree is spectacular! xo

  12. Oh that tree! How gorgeous is that! I have to remind myself that you are in summer and enjoying all the fun that that entails. I am glad that the farmers are happy. Needed rain is most welcome except for those on holiday.

The Jacaranda tree is gorgeous. The lavender/ blue flowers are so pretty. Do they bloom all summer? Hope you have a great weekend.

  16. Rain is always needed all around the world isn't it, just not too much at once! It is funny that you went to Wombat Hill and that there weren't any there, animals are tricky things aren't they. I look forward to hearing more about the visit to your son, it looks as though he lives in a very interesting and historical place. Thank you for joining Five On Friday again this year! Happy weekend! xx

  17. That tree is gorgeous! Always interesting to think of Christmas in the southern hemisphere, with camping and warm weather. So different than here in Michigan, U.S. I would think a camping trip after Christmas would be fun -- it's too cold here to think of anything other than a book in front of the fire. Although many people up north (northern Michigan) go skiing.
Happy New Year to you Shane. Now I'm off to see what a wombat is!!

  18. Hello. I loved seeing all your fabulous photos. It must be fun living in an historical place. We have lots of jacaranda trees here in southern California. When they lose their flowers, it's like having snow in summer! Enjoy your weekend, Pat

  19. Happy New Year. Lovely photos. Lots of Jacaranda in bloom around Whangarei.

The rain was much needed here.

  20. Dearest Shane,
What a sweet little town and so nice to visit loved ones, always. The beautiful Jacaranda tree has stolen my heart - such a lovely shade of lavender. We are coffee drinkers here near Seattle, also - it helps so much during these cold, rainy winter days. Wishing you and your loved ones many blessings in the New Year. Hugs xo Karen

  24. I hope you have been and will remain safe during the summer storms. Our climate is all wacky here in the states this year. El Nino, they say. I hope ...
